Optimism App Reviews

Flexible, customizable, and with great service.

I have been using this software for the past couple of months, and it has been extremely helpful in picking up subtle patterns. I suffer ongoing migraine headaches (5+ years of daily symptoms), and Optimism has been helpful in following the effects of changes in medication. I have also, due to my own ineptness, needed some tech support, and James has been prompt, helpful and patient. I could not ask for more from the software, being incredibly flexible to customize to my needs, or the developer, so eager to help. Incidently, this software could easily be adapted for depression sufferers, those with chronic pain, or even athletes. It is ideal for someone working with a doctor to adjust medication levels, and needing to determine the effectiveness of the changes, regardless of the medical condition being treated. Because the interface can be completely customized, and because it allows for not only yes/no but numerical values for responses, Optimism can be completely tailored to track the information you need in fairly precise detail. This allows for a much easier, objective assessment of how you are doing over a period of time, or how changes are affecting you.

I found this application to be very useful

Tried CBT Pad first, was impressed, worked flawlessly. Upgraded to OPTIMISM; completely customizable, great printout reports. Use with my Life Coach for: > Exercise > Diet > Stress (On Job) > Habit Creation Tiny Investment; Huge Return; BUY IT; USE DAILY. You won’t regret it.

Easy to Keep Up!

Im very impressed by this application! I have done mood tracking on my own for several years, however this makes it easy to keep up and be detailed with! I love that it also has space to create a Care Plan, and graphs out pertinent details!

Wonderfully simple and effective

This app has been immensely helpful in tracking moods and triggers. I have become more cognizant of coping strategies I can use before and after the onset of an episode.

Rich in data and valuable information.

I use this app as a way to monitor my moods and gain insight on what could trigger or uplift me. I also integrate my own unique triggers and find the app easy to use.

More customization needed to an already great app

This app is good, and I appreciate the idea behind it. It will let me track a lot of information via the main window. I agree with other reviews that more control or customization ability would be nice. I realize that can be challenging, especially when you have an app that has a site and other platforms, but being able to convert the types of core data to other things (sliders to check boxes or text boxes) or the ability to input a number range for the sliders/text boxes would be nice. Some might rather track something other than the number of hours slept in that one text box in core data… That said, the customization on the other sections is nice. The option to add ratings on the symptoms, triggers, and strategies, plus the ability to rename each section and add/remove things as you see fit is very likeable. I can track everything I want to from this main screen of the app, except for 1-2 things. That’s the only irritation I have with this app. Please keep up the good work!

Mood

Living with bipolar for a quarter of my life I have had to do a lot of improvasational thought to chart my mood. Often i utilized color wheels, and am a color addict. Along with this programs effective charting tools, it doesnt leave much software in mapping. For example, when I use a color wheel alone to map my mood I utilize to two central themes in Bipolar treatment, mood and sleep, yet the formular is internal. This programs has room to grow and for twenty dollars it is generally just a quality of life assesment. But it is still could be amped if it could chart a few extra ideas like categorizing happiness and well being. As ive improved I often catorgize my therapeutic goals, and then my personal goals are a color break through they come with unique themes and motives. Downloadable topics within the templates would also be good. Yet the introspecting isnt there, its relative to rate your self on a number line and for people living with a mental illness for a long time should have to benefit of these kinds of visuals. I will definitly download the next mood mapping software but i dig emicons, color wheels, and the relationship of symptoms versus precedence

What an AWESOME App! Very Helpful!

I am a clinically depressed male, and I struggle with the illness every day. This app is really helpful in helping me track what issues I need to work on, and what I do that helps. Its very easy to customize for more personal issues. I would say that out of the 10 various apps I bought in the last 3 weeks for my new macbook, this is by far my favorite.

This is a wonderful, VERSATILE App!

Ive been using this app for about 6 months now, & have been keping track of a completely (easily) modified list of wellness support & vitality markers. As a result, Ive become much more conscious of cause/effect relationships between actions & foods on one side, and results & feelings on the other. Ive even isolated a wheat/gluten intolerance... I highly recommend this program.

Small learning curve, friendly, and helpful

Ive just started using this app but I am positive about the future. I like the straight forward and simple design. I also find that the note tool is helpful in relating what I did health wise to what my mood was that day. It doesnt ask much from you and pretty much does all the work for you in keeping track of what triggers depression, stress, etc. Best of all its free!

Thank you!

Thank you for this simple to use tool that will help me to track my mental health and well-being. I plan to use it every day. The charts are very useful and the ability to print the entire history of reports and notes is another valuable tool. Thanks again!

An incredibly diverse app, with responsible development!

This app is intended ideally for collaborative use between mental health professionals and their clients. I however use this apps customization to follow and graph my productivity (as well as causes/effects including mood, sleep, etc) as it relates to elements within my control in my daily life. I have nearly only good things to say about this app and its designers for both purposes. Optimism has been organized to allow various viewpoints of your progress, as well as easy to export graphs/charts so that others can follow your progress as well. Together you can decide what information belongs where, whether its important to you or not, whether you need to give grades/ratings to items, etc. You can follow goals/plans, and keep daily notes alongside them. with a little tweaking, Optimism could double for a cognitive behavioral therapy planner as well. As I use it for productivty tracking, I simply had to customize the fields accordingly (i.e.: how well i managed work today, quality of work, taking breaks, etc) the general use is the same, I only wish i had the money to hire a life coach to review it with every week :-) My one and only wish is that there was a bit more flexibility to change the "core data" form (to make some sliders button inputs, or add/remove fields as I desired. Also Id prefer to have the option of slider ratings instead of numerical (or some numerical, others sliders) and to be able to customise colors, etc. But for the intended use of the program, i understand why such features are likely not the priorities of its developers. They are currently running volunteer surveys on the use of this app for those who will be using it with their clinicians, and I highly recommend anyone interested in furthering the usefulness of this application to do so.

love it

this is a great app

OMG! Stupid simple and a great tool to track your mental status!

Was fully prepared to pay for something that did less than Optimism. Stupid simple to use, flexible to customize, and gives you journaling/note taking ability as well to flesh out the "data". Remember to remove the month of fake data that comes with the unit - it even prompts you to do this the first time you open the program. Well done!

This app is great

I use it, to show my doctor how I am doing, day to day. Keep up the great work!

simple and great!

I love this app! Its a great and easy way to keep track of your moods and what triggers depression and anxiety problems. Being aware of these things helps a lot...and its free! Theres also a note-taking option so you can add more documentation to each day.

New Doctor Great Software

This app saved me from the dreaded tell my 2 year history to someone else and the emotional toll that it takes. My new Dr. was very receptive to it and was surprised that there was a definite rythum to my elment. We put together different issues to track because the software is so customizable and I feel a lot more involved in treatment. I would tell anybody that wants to tract their progress to use this software.

Its hard to believe this app is free

This is a fantastic tool for mental health, physical health -- any kind of disability or difficulty, really. You can customize the factors that you track, as well as the names of the categories you place them in and what you count as Core Data (in that left-hand sidebar). The ability to add notes is wonderful. I agree with runda.fhein about how a slider option would be useful, but thats so minor. Im going to try those tips for using it as a productivity tracker, too! Overall this app is so useful and worthwhile -- even its existence on your dock or desktop is a good reminder to take care of yourself.

Im Satisfied

Doctors use this same type of assesment for their patients. Me on the other hand: Ive customized mine to help me monitor my consumption of cigarettes, and coffee, and the foods i eat. Ive noticed a difference in my decision making; about what i put into my body. Good app. Worth a try.

So many uses

I was looking for an app to journal my moods when I found Optimism. The app is stable, easy to use and customizable. I am hoping to cope better with hormonal changes as I approach menopause. So far so good.
